David James Hulston
David was most recently Associate Director on the UK Tour of the ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ musical.
He was most recently Associate Director on Nativity the Musical at the Birmingham Rep and Associate and Resident Director on ‘Strictly Ballroom the Musical’ (UK Tour).
Othe recent work includes choreography on the Opera Holland Park production of ‘HMS Pinafore’; Assistant Director on the feature film ‘Christmas on Mistletoe Farm’, assisting long term collaborator Debbie Issit whom he has also worked with as story supervisor on the film ‘Nativity Rocks’ and associate director on the 2017 & 2018 UK tours of ‘Nativity the Musical’.
David was resident director on the 2017 UK tour of Sister Act starring Alexandra Burke. He was associate choreographer on the revival of 'Kiss Me Kate' with Welsh National Opera, having been part of the original creative team on the same production with Opera North in 2015. David worked as movement director alongside James Branning to create the West Yorkshire Playhouse production of 'Into the Woods' with the chorus of Opera North.
David was part of the original creative team on Opera Norths' successful production of Carousel as assistant choreographer, and also the revival choreographer when the show played in London at the Barbican and in Paris at the Châtelet. He also took on the role of resident director in Paris and then at Opera North when the production returned to the company almost two years later.
Other works include: Assistant Director/Choreographer on the 2014 UK Tour of 'Fiddler On The Roof'; Assistant Director/Choreographer on 'Witches of Eastwick' (Watermill Theatre); Assistant Director on 'Strictly Confidential '(UK Tour) written & directed by Craig Revel Horwood. Director & Choreographer on the production of Stiles & Drewe's 'Just So' (Petersfield Youth Theatre); Choreographer on 'Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs' at The Swan, High Wycombe; revival choreographer on the play 'A Round Heeled Woman' in the West End staring Sharon Gless. Assistant Director/Choreographer on the UK Tour of 'Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show' directed & choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood. He also assisted Craig on the Operetta ‘Der Ker Handel' at the Bregenz Festival in Germany and on Opera North's production of 'Paradise Moscow’. David worked alongside director Joanna Davis on creating a new production of 'Don Giovanni' as movement/fight director in The Netherlands and worked as assistant choreographer on Season 1 & 3 of ITV’s ‘Victoria’.
